Studio 54, a new documentary charting the incredible history of one of the world’s most celebrated nightclubs, will hit cinemas on 15th June. A new trailer was made available yesterday.

The immensely influential New York venue was synonymous with club scene of the ‘70s and was a hub of sorts for pivotal figures of the era, from Grace Jones to Andy Warhol. The documentary, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival to great acclaim, follows club owners Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell along their path to becoming the kings of New York’s nightlife throughout the 1970s.

Directed by Matt Tyrnauer and produced by John Battsek and Corey Reeser, the documentary includes never before seen footage of the club as well as exclusive interviews with Schrager, Rubell and various DJs, performers and frequenters of the space.

The documentary follows up on Schrager’s own photobook of the iconic landmark. Schrager has now gone on to open a new Manhattan Club, Public Arts.

The new trailer is streaming exclusively via The Independent. Watch it here.
