Native instruments Maschine 2

Hype
Coloured LED buttons plus a full version of Massive and a fancy new white colour scheme option make Maschine V2 a very tempting proposition indeed.
Gripe
At this price there is no finding fault with this rather excellent beat machine.
Summary
A groove box that has become a huge hit with beat makers across a plethora of genres thanks to Maschine's amazing sounds, slick workflow and gorgeous hardware interface.

Ableton Live

Hype
Great value for money, improved session and arrangement views plus a huge library of sounds.
Gripe
The audio to MIDI feature could use some work.
Summary
Ableton is the perfect way for newcomers to get deep into the art of production without the headache of learning the big boys toys as is also fantastic for putting down grooves and beats in a flash.

Logic Pro

Hype
An improved user interface that makes Logic even more user friendly, track stacks and Logic Remote for iPad users all at a very reasonable price.
Gripe
Looking like a pimped up Garage Band isn’t the way to go.
Summary
Logic is still considered one of the go to DAWs for dance music production.

Bitwig Studio

Hype
Ableton style clip launch and arrange work flow, fantastically customisable user interface and a great selection of instrument, FX and clips.
Gripe
Given the fact Bitwig is brand new and still only at version 1.2 there are surprisingly few niggles.
Summary
Bitwig's huge hype before release has proven to be justified and has been a huge hit among producers old and new alike.
