There's a rave happening on a tiny Mediterranean island this summer

Call Super, Or:La, James Holden, more have also been locked for the UNESCO World Heritage site...

There's a rave happening on a tiny Mediterranean island this summer, with Ortigia Sound System set to celebrate its fifth birthday between 25th and 29th July on the small and picturesque Ortigia, just off the southeastern coast of Sicily.

2017's instalment brought widespread acclaim for the event thanks to excellent artist curation and the locations used for performances, with shows taking place across a town recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site thanks to its mixture of classical ruins and Renaissance architecture. Even so, it remains one of Europe's lesser-known summer soirees.

For 2018, Ortigia Sound System will boast more than 40 electronic music acts and use six landmark venues. Names confirmed so far include James Holden & The Animal Spirits, Mafalda, Erlend Øye, DJ Mag Best of British winner Or:la, Call Super (the guy behind DJ Mag's top album of 2017), Kamaal Williams, Dan Shake and Akabadgyal, with fast-rising UK imprint Whities also hosting a showcase, Over 9,000 people are expected to attend.
