Tiësto: ‘Swedish House Mafia reunion inspired Avicii to get back into DJing’

Avicii, before his death last Friday (20th April), had been inspired to get back into DJing by the Swedish House Mafia reunion at Ultra last month (March), according to Tiësto.

The late Swedish EDM megastar, who died last Friday in Oman, retired from touring in 2016 due to health reasons.

But Tiësto has now revealed that Avicii had recently been inspired to get back into DJing again. “He almost came to Ultra to see Swedish House Mafia perform there,” Tiësto said in an interview with SiriusXM.

“He texted me: ‘I might come.' I think when they got back together on stage, that was an inspiration for him as well to go back to DJing.”

Last year, Avicii revealed that he hadn’t been to a live show since his retirement in 2016.

Oman authorities ruled that Avicii’s death is not being treated as suspicious earlier today (23rd April).

Despite retiring from touring, Avicii landed number 28 in our DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll last year.
