LIKE A VIRGIN: AUTOKRATZ

Autokratz tells us about their first gig

“Our first ever live show was completely mental. We’d done a single and got booked for this big East End rave in London, so thought we needed a warm-up the day before.

We rather stupidly chose the basement at 333 in Shoreditch, where you used to always get East London’s finest selection of random weirdos.

Throughout the show, a seven-foot man with tattoos all over his face  — always a good sign — stood at the front and menacingly stared at Dave, continually making the ‘I’m gonna slit your throat’ gesture across his neck. He was foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog and looked like he was on day release from Broadmoor. It didn’t look like the throat-slitting was a vain threat.

What a lovely welcome to our live career... and needless to say, there was no encore and a swift exit through the back door.”
