Welcome to Miami!

WMC 2010 shapes up

Forget your token gym membership this New Year and start saving instead for 2010's Miami Winter Music Conference. Because there's nothing to motivate shedding that winter padding quicker than the thought of hitting the beaches and pools of Miami alongside Florida's body beautiful in March.

This year, toned, buffed and possibly with some kind of tribal tattoo, DJmag return to The Shelborne Beach Resort — the grand Art Deco hotel on the city's Collins Avenue — for the self-explanatory DJmag At The Shelborne Beach Sessions, held between 23rd - 28th March.

With reduced price early-bird tickets now on sale, it's already promising to be an even more immense series of events than last year's Recession Sessions which featured everyone from David Guetta and Gui Boratto, to Sasha, Sander Kleinenberg and Luciano, all touching down for a WMC week of illustrious parties at the hotel's pool area and nightclub, Shine.

It all kicks off on Tuesday 23rd March with Timmy Regisford and New York's Shelter crew bringing their distinctive brand of house grooves down the coast to Shine. On Wednesday 24th DJmag slip on their new swimwear for the opening pool party. While the line up still remains under (Winter) wraps for now, with the likes of Steve Lawler, Josh Gabriel, David Guetta, Gui Boratto and Way Out West at last year's event, expect some very big names. Later that evening, you can also join techno-Jedi Josh Wink and guests, as they corral Shine to celebrate 15 years of his label Ovum.

There's a veritable avalanche of top talent playing throughout the rest of the week — including techno gods Luciano, Loco Dice, Martin Buttrich and Reboot — but make sure you don't miss the legendary Sasha on Saturday night, who's filled with fond memories of playing DJmag At The Shelborne last year.

"By the time you get to Saturday, everyone's in an altered state because they've been out five nights on the trot," laughs Sasha. "Last year I literally turned all the lights off in the club and got lost in my set for two or three hours. It's that really small room with an amazing soundsystem, you can really let the music take you.

"I'm always bombarded with music leading up to the WMC, you get maybe two or three tracks that will change your outlook for the year, so it's the most exciting time for music, for me. It's almost overwhelming how you're going to program it all!"

After the success of last year's marathon pool party, Danny Tenaglia also returns on Sunday for a Tea Dance With Danny Tenaglia, the closing pool event on 28th March.

"With partners like DJmag, Wantickets and our staff, I could not ask for a better team to produce the finest week of electronic dance music on its biggest stage for the 25th year of WMC in Miami," said The Shelborne's Jon Cowan. "If you thought last year was strong, just you wait to see the talent we've secured, some returning and some new, plus many production surprises as well. DJmag At The Shelborne WMC 2010 will be one for the record books!"

Wantickets is to be a one-stop shop for those seeking tickets to the series of events. After the success of last year, North America's biggest clubbing ticket sales company will once again set up a ticket sales area in the hotel's Ocean Room, making it easier than ever to grab your tickets with their convenient ticketing machines. Tickets are available from their website, too: get yours online now at wantickets.com (tickets range from £7.73 to £14.80 in advance).

Alternatively, register as a guest at The Shelborne for the conference and you'll get complimentary admission to all events, subject to capacity at the time of arrival. A standard twin room during the week of the conference is priced at $399 (£245 at time of writing).

See you by the pool!
