WHAT ARE YOU WEARING: DJ HYPE

Exclusive wardrobe access

What are you wearing right now?

“Well, I’ve got my Ann Summers thong on. No, the thing is I’m sponsored by Money Clothing, and I do genuinely like their stuff and I’m not just saying this! At the moment I’m wearing one of their tracksuits. It’s grey, black with gold. I DJ all the time so I’m not a very dressy uppy type.”

How would you describe your style?

“I don’t know! (laughs). Casual, comfortable DJ gear I suppose. You won’t see me turning up with a fringe pushed to the side, or the v-neck jumper with the tattoos look. I don’t follow fashion. But I really like G-Star jeans because they’re comfortable.”

Who is your favourite designer or label?

“At the moment, for everyday wear, I’d say Money. But I like everything they give me, and I’ve been sponsored by other clothing people and I end up giving it away.”

What’s your favourite boutique or store in the world?

“It’s even worse when I go abroad. Probably still the West End. But everywhere I go shopping, I’m pretty disappointed. I wanted to buy a nice winter coat, every year they bring out the same puffa jackets. Everywhere was doing the same thing, check shirt, body warmer... is everyone wearing check shirts and body warmers?! I used to work in the Burberry warehouse. I used to be able to get a £500 coat for forty quid.”

What is your most treasured possession?

“I did have two rings, one that was my grandfather's and one that I had made in his honour, and they were my most treasured possessions. It was a gold ring with stones in it, and I had it modified. And people used to think I was wearing it to be flash. But I haven’t been able to find them for a couple of months, they’ve got to be here somewhere. And I’ve got a Versace coat and it’s lasted forever, I’ve had it for about 10 years.”

What have you got in the pipeline?

“I do Kiss radio every week. March will be our Easter Playaz special, we always do that at the end of March. I’m just signing new artists for my label. But I’m also starting to try to find time to get back into the studio for myself to write some music. I’m probably going to work with artists within my camp because I can’t do it all on my own.”
