Dundee venue King’s has closed its doors for good.

"Dear Dreamers," they wrote on Facebook today (29th May). "Kings doors have now closed for the final time. Big thanks to our great Staff, DJs & Crew who have stuck by us as we tried to fight the forces of WaCk in Small Town Clubland.

"Extra special thanks and praise to all of you who showed up each & every week and without whose support we would not have lasted these past 5 years. Until we meet again...... Much love from the Small Town Club Family."

The upcoming event by DJ collective Gone Dark, which was due to take place on Friday 7th June, has been cancelled. King's has yet to reveal a reason for the closure.

The multi-purpose community-led art and performance space was opened in 2019 by the same people involved with the city's ertswhile Reading Rooms.

In recent years, King's has welcomed sets and events from James Zabiela, Tim Reaper, Exiled Records, Ben Gomori, Kolectiv, and more.

UK. Earlier this year, Music Venue Trust revealed that 2023 was the UK's "worst year for venue closures", with 125 grassroots spaces being lost. UK clubs had closed in the previous 12 months. Legendary Leeds club Wire will shut its doors this week.

In more positive news, last week it was announced that a new grassroots club, Are You Affiliated, is set to open in North Shields.
