Playing the DJ Mag Sessions at Egg London will be something of a homecoming for Lauren Lo Sung. Not in the geographical sense (she's from Liverpool), but rather that she's a former resident at the Kings Cross club. “I'm buzzing to be returning to Egg London, it's one of my favourite clubs to play in,” she tells us. “The vibe is always incredible there, full of people who just enjoy themselves and dance until the early hours. I can't wait to test out my new productions on their Flipside Soundsystem too, it's got to be up there with the best I've ever played on!”

Now holding down a residency at Birmingham's TRMNL, Lauren is keen to stress the importance of hosting a regular night — something she's had a great deal of experience with already, launching her own LOLiFE club night back in 2009, aged 18. “It's great to play to new crowds of people, but it's such a warm feeling when a crowd you're familiar with welcomes you to play for them frequently,” says Lauren. “You feel like part of the family.”

Family is a key word for the Liverpudlian; her passion was born from her older siblings blasting the sounds of Cream, Subliminal and Hed Kandi throughout her childhood. “I had no choice but to start liking it eventually,” she laughs. Lauren convinced her parents to buy her a pair of beginner decks when she was just 11 years old, and well... the rest is history. Now she's prepping releases for the likes of Hector's Vatos Locos and US label Draft, launching an imprint with Sian Bennett called e1even, and is set to play the 15th and final season of Carl Cox's Music Is Revolution party at Space Ibiza. “He seems like a true gent,” she says of the legendary British DJ. “If you would have told me a few years back I would be playing in Space for Carl Cox, I probably would have laughed my head off!”

Pro that she is, Lauren's taking everything in her stride. She's used to the workload by now, she even relishes it. “It's pretty easy to balance it all, simply because I enjoy doing it so much. I love being busy, especially when it's anything to do with music,” she explains. “I see it all as more of a hobby than work, and I believe that if you're truly passionate about something, you will be driven to work harder and be more motivated to push yourself as far as you can go.”
