Emika will release a new EP, ‘Breath Cuts’, this week via her eponymous label. Listen to the lead title track below.

The release marks the Berlin-based, English-Czech artists first new music in over a year, following 2021’s ‘Broken Pieces feat. Anna Phoebe’. Written during what she describes as the darkest chapter in her life, the atmospheric techno track moves through passages of shadowy sub bass, ethereal electronic sound design and glitching vocals. Carried on a steady four-to-the-floor pulse, the track pulls you deep into the lockdown headspace in which it was composed. It culminates in a whispered spoken passage from Emika, a train of thought that echoes with longing and a desire to be outside once more.

The release comes paired with a hard-hitting remix from Berghain resident Norman Nodge. Both Nodge and Emika also sculpt more subdued, kickless versions of the track geared toward reflective home listening.

Each version of ‘Breath Cuts’ was made using samples that are available to buy via Emika’s Producers Sounds pack on Loopcloud. Described as being suitable for classical, electronic sound design and singer-songwriter styles, the pack features “throbbing basslines, glitchy beats, haunting harmonies, and atmospheric forest recordings from Berlin to the Black Forest”. 'Breath Cuts' will be released on 27th January. Pre-order it here
