SIFON will release their debut EP, ‘High Camp Fantasy Groove’, later this week on their brand new imprint of the same name. Listen exclusively to ‘Deserted 4ever’ below.

The Barcelona-born, Melbourne-based DJ and producer follows mixes for collectives such as Maricas, Radiant Love, and Butter Sessions with his inaugural six-track release, out 24th November. Inspired by different gateways to escape reality, including fantasy RPGs like Zelda and Kingdom Hearts, as well as the queer dancefloors where SIFON (real name Greg Menendez) spent their youth, the project conjures an alternative universe through bleepy synthwork and hyperactive techno rhythms.

Opener ‘Showtime’ arrives in a haze of cybernetic grooves and squalling toplines, silenced only by a camp, robotic vocoder reminding us that “it’s showtime, girls!” The dystopian atmospheres only intensify across the darker and sparser ‘Expelled From Heaven’, and the bleep-powered ‘Surrender 2 Bliss’, where the EP enters a more dreamlike state.

Elsewhere, SIFON juxtaposes low, growling bass with radiant arps and staccato drums on B2 ‘Ultima’, before ‘Deserted 4ever’ swells like the main title to an epic, cyberpunk blockbuster.

“On ‘Deserted 4ever’ I tried to go for a quirky tech bounce, employing sci-fi and fantasy elements that build on a bittersweet trip,” the producer said of the track. “Imagine a character wandering in a dry, earthy horizon, who's lost direction. They experience a journey of melancholy with a cute twist as the small creatures of the environment help them find the way.”

‘High Camp Fantasy Groove’ will mark the first release on SIFON’s new imprint of the same name. The label will focus on conceptual releases, pairing its sounds with equally striking visual content. For the first instalment, SIFON linked-up with Aussie visual artist, JW Vigers, on a series of “visualisers” for each track, presenting each of them as a playable character of the record’s party.

‘High Camp Fantasy Groove’ is out 24th November. Pre-order the EP here, and listen exclusively to ‘Deserted 4ever’ below.
