In this series, Selections, we invite DJs, producers and label heads to dig into their digital crates and share the contents of their Bandcamp collections. While hearing new music played out by your favourite selectors has been put on hold as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s never been easier, or more important, to support the artists and imprints releasing tracks, albums, EPs and comps in the midst of all the madness. In lieu of opportunities to discover new records on the dancefloor, Selections will give you the chance to nab sounds from the crates of tastemakers, and support the people behind them while you’re at it. Win-win, right?
This week, Mr. Mitch spotlights percussive club sounds and dancehall mutations to make you crave the dancefloor, featuring cuts from JD. Reid, P Adrix, FAUZIA, Jurango, The Bug, KG & UNIIqu3 and more. The DJ Mag favourite, who recently recorded a set live for from our London HQ, released his third album ‘Lazy’ earlier this month via his own Gobstopper Records. In his review of the album for the recent issue of DJ Mag, Dhruva Balram described how the album “oscillates from ceiling-threatening double-layered bass and glistening synths over skittish drum rolls, to ambient meditative tracks fit for yoga retreats.” “There isn’t a moment on this album that isn’t captivating,” he wrote. “From the opener ‘Black Magic’, a club-ready anthem, to ‘Proud’ (featuring his son, Miles) to the taut and wiry ‘What They Want’, Mr. Mitch does a superb job in adding new colours to his palette while showcasing, yet again, why he continues to be one of the best UK producers around.”
