Ibiza 2017 is shaping up to be one of the most interesting seasons in history. The vacuum left by the closure of Space has resulted in a shake up of events not seen on the island for some time. Here is our roundup of the summer's biggest nights…
The big news at Amnesia comes via the acquisition of party-starters Elrow. Their carnival-style production and enthusiastic crowds will bring some welcome colour to proceedings at the club. Elsewhere, Marco Carola's Music On, Sven Vath's Cocoon and Hyte with Chris Liebing demonstrate why Amnesia is the island's No.1 location for techno lovers.
DC10 is no longer the Ibiza underdog, but their growth remains steady and organic to ensure a high level of quality control across their calendar. Circo Loco – the Monday party that made the club's name – returns every week from 22nd May. Meanwhile Jamie Jones' Paradise brand takes over every Wednesday night. This year they'll also open on selected Fridays as Disclosure's WILD LIFE crew roll into town.
Eden, the jewel in San Antonio's clubbing crown, is primed for the strongest season in years. The freshly-renovated venue has managed to coax Defected back to the island after a year-long hiatus. Simon Dunmore's label will take over the club every Sunday. Another interesting addition comes via Taste The Punch, who mark their Ibiza debut by bringing Mark Knight, Faithless and Laidback Luke to San Antonio.
Certainly 2017's biggest biggest talking point, Hï Ibiza – which sits on the site of the old Space venue – opens for the first time on 28th May. For anyone who visited Space Ibiza, the transformation of the famous venue may be somewhat bittersweet, but with DJ line ups including Martin Garrix, Armin Van Buuren, Black Coffee and Eric Prydz, you can be sure that plenty of people will be coming through the doors to check it out.
Ibiza's most famous club welcomes back melodic techno maestros Solomon and Maceo Plex. Solomon's +1 parties kick off on 28th May, while Mosaic by Maceo returns every Tuesday from 30th May. Elsewhere David Guetta plays every Thursday and Martin Solveig takes control on Wednesday nights.
Privilege has been resurgent for a while now, but this is the year that the cavernous old club returns to Ibiza's top table. Ultra Music Festival's Resistance brand takes over Tuesdays, with Sasha & Digweed at the helm. Meanwhile Carl Cox has committed to two dates in July and Tale of Us bring their Afterlife party, to control Thursdays throughout the season.
You may think that investing time and effort into a new venue could lead an organisation to take their eyes off the ball. Yet there is no sign that Ushuaïa are getting distracted by the opening of Hï. This year's headliners include David Guetta, Martin Garrix and Kygo alongside The Chainsmokers, who are locked in for one date on 2nd July. On the other side of the musical spectrum, Andrea Oliva's Antz parties return every Saturday, bringing techno and tech house to the club's giant outdoor stage.
