Q&A: Miller SoundClash 2017 Finalist DJ Vane

Tell us in one sentence who you are and where you are from?

“My name is Irma Correa and I‘m from Panama. I consider myself a purple explosion of music and pixels.”

Where did your love of music first come from?

"I come from a very musical family. Since my childhood I have been surrounded by classical music and old salsa songs."

How long have you been DJing?

"I have been DJing since 2006."

Do you produce music also?

"Yes, I have some mashups and I will release my new sounds soon."

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?

"Winning the Miller SoundClash 2017 Panama final!"

Tell us about the success as a DJ you’ve had in your own country.

"I host 2 EDM radio shows and have created my own brand of EDM parties called Concolón"

How did it feel to win your local Miller SoundClash competition?

"I was waiting for this experience since a long time. I had the opportunity to show who I really am by preserving my essence."

How much does it mean to you to have made it to this stage of Miller SoundClash?

"t means everything to me, because I‘ve had many difficult moments during my career, dealing with things like fatigue and doubt. This is a moment of triumph and satisfaction. The best decision I made was to work hard to achieve all my goals."

How do you plan to stand out over the other DJs in Las Vegas? How will you be preparing for the finale?

"It’s a surprise!"

What makes you unique compared to the other international finalists?

"I come from a country were percussion sounds are everything, we have a mixture of many cultures and beats that results in an explosion of music and feelings. I will bring this emotion into the competition."

Las Vegas is the EDM capital of the USA, with major DJs playing every weekend. If you could meet and hang out with one of these DJs in Vegas, who would it be and why?

"I would really love to hang out with Marshmello. Although my influences are tribal and latin, I love the trap, dubstep and bass power that he plays."

Who from dance music’s elite do you most respect and take inspiration from?

"Kryder, Tom Staar, Federico Escavo, Gregor Salto and Alex Guesta."

How important is it for competitions like Miller SoundClash to give aspiring DJs the chance to show their talent to the world?

"It‘s very important to give worldwide exposure to new talents, and to give us the opportunity to live a unique experience and share it with other international DJs."

Tell us a bit about your home country - How is the electronic music scene there right now?

"Panama has a population of approximately 4 million people, we are a small country but are thirsty for good music and success. My DJ colleagues and I are focused on bringing the best EDM sounds to our national crowd and to make them feel what we feel when we play onstage."
