Tell us in one sentence who you are and where are you from?
"I’m Scorsi, a producer and music aficionado from São Paulo, Brazil."
Where did your love of music first come from?
"I track this back to my dad. He’s a big music fan, had a large collection of records and was very involved on the rock scene, so my childhood was surrounded by music. There are home videos of my brother and me, with Metallica - Ride The Lightning playing in the back. So that kind of thing helped create a mindset to have music in every moment of my life. And when I reached my early teenage years, I decided to take guitar classes, and my story inside music began."
How long have you been DJing?
"A long time! It’s been my hobby since I was 16. I had a different project before Scorsi, and it all started with my brother and some friends that had a DJ group for private parties, and I joined them for fun. But then, I ended up growing up surrounded by amazing DJs."
Do you produce music also?
"Yes. I’ve been making music for over a decade."
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
"As Scorsi, having a track featured on a box office movie."
Tell us about the success as a DJ you’ve had in your own country.
"I’ve had the chance to play some amazing shows during my career, with big names and very talented unknown DJs. I’ve played some of the most important clubs on the local scene, like Lov.e Club, D Edge, Broadway, Clash Club and had a residency at Six Club, besides a few festivals like Federal Music and Spirit of London."
How does it feel to win your local Miller SoundClash competition? Tell us about your experience in the competition so far.
"It’s an amazing feeling. I’ve never entered any contests in my life. The thrill of waiting on the results was unique. Playing live at the finals was very special too. I’ve met new and talented people, and had the chance to showcase my work. And on top of all that, MGD Brazil has been amazing to me. So many incredible people behind the brand, and they put so much effort to put a great event together."
How much does it mean to you to have made it to this stage of Miller SoundClash?
"It’s an amazing opportunity to show myself to the world. MIller Genuine Draft is a top brand, so having this kind of support on a competition like this is priceless. It can definitely take you places you probably couldn’t go by yourself. So I’m very thankful for that."
How do you plan to stand out over the other DJs in Las Vegas? How will you be preparing for the finale?
"I’m going to concentrate on using all the knowledge I have and do my best to entertain the crowd with my performance. And, obviously, have fun. The more you love your job, the more fun you have doing it."
What makes you unique compared to the other international finalists?
"I’m pretty sure all the finalists are great DJs, that’s why they made it here. I come from a variety of different genres, so I guess that I have no limits or boundaries with my sound. I give the crowd what they need, in the right moment, including my own tracks."
Las Vegas is the EDM capital of the USA, with major DJs playing every weekend. If you could meet and hang out with one of these DJs in Vegas, who would it be and why?
"This is very hard! I have a huge admiration for Steve Angello, but I would say Skrillex. Besides the talent, that guy has an amazing energy, always smiling, I’m sure it’s very fun to be around him."
How important is it for competitions like Miller SoundClash to give aspiring DJs the chance to show their talent to the world?
"It’s a necessity. These days, with some many artists coming up at the same time, a competition like this is a great gateway for that person with amazing talent to show their face to the world."
Tell us a bit about your home country - how is the electronic music scene where you are from?
"Brazil is so rich when it comes to music. Our history has so many great names and game changers such as DJ Marky, Mau Mau and Anderson Noise. People that came from nothing, with amazing talent and willpower, which created something really big and put Brazil on the electronic music map. And on the last few years we have this happening again, on a variety of genres, with FTampa, ANNA, Tropkillaz and so many others.
The nightlife is really big and present here, so many great clubs, parties, and festivals. You can go out Monday through Monday and you’ll find a great DJ playing. Our culture embraced electronic music on the best way possible."
