Salsoul Sounds Familiar

Salsoul
The NYC disco stalwart and dance music cornerstone releases an EP of revised, remixed and re-edited tunes from its hallowed catalogue. Some might wonder how on earth one could improve on such nuggets as Candido’s ‘Thousand Finger Man’ or Joe Bataan’s ‘Latin Lover’, but believe me, this project has been tackled with careful consideration and the results are very, very good. All involved — GE-OLOGY, DJ Spinna, Kai Alce, Mark Grusane, Specter and Volcov — offer respectful versions, either roughing up the originals with extra production details (check Kai Alce’s beatdown style edit of ‘Salsoul Rainbow' and DJ Spinna’s 2018 club style version of The Salsoul Orchestra’s ‘Chicago Bus Stop’) or loyal re-edits. Top marks, however, go to GE-OLOGY’s inventive take on the great ‘Thousand Finger Man’. Essential.
