Matt ‘Radio Slave’ Edwards revives his more experimental recording persona, Rekid, for a new outing on his Pyramids Of Mars label. The too few Rekid releases that have seen the light of day have experimented with disco, house, electro, dub and techno; reaching a high with the stunning ‘Made In Menorca’ album for Soul Jazz. ‘Tuesday Bluesday’ finds Edwards back in a more habitual, production mood, employing classic disco hooks amongst mid-tempo rhythm sections (check the killer Donna McGhee sampling title track) and primitive drum machine loops (noted on the oddball rhumba of ‘Mars’). Tail this off with a skipping, bit-crushed homage to old school DJ Sneak (‘Wave’) and Edwards adds a tidy addition to his unique, if sporadic, canon of work. Class.
