New York City's MANIK, though just 25, appears to have an old head on his shoulders. That is to say, his productions have a classic feel to them, imbued with house music sensibilities from another era. But this isn't retro, he just knows precisely what makes brilliant house by learning from the past. 'Keep That Fresh' recalls Mr Fingers, coupling an acid bassline with floating pads. 'Ditmars Blvd' is more of a building, driving, percussion-heavy groove, punctuated with stabbing synths. It's sturdy, soulful and brilliant.
