Jinku is next up on Mancuian imprint Banana Hill with six-track effort, 'Vagabond'.
The EP, comprised of four original productions and two remixes, courtesy of Berlin-based Sooma and UK producer El Búho, explores "the waning lights of a relationship through tension, discordant sound layers and African polyrhythms, examining the damage caused through infidelity and repercussions faced for one’s own actions".
Jinku's highly personal 'Vagabond' is a delicately woven tapestry of intimate moments and memories, explored through African percussion, acoustic instruments and downtempo beats. The clever use of vocals, from the tribal chant of 'A1' to the emotive urgency of the loop in 'N2', add another layer to Jinku's stunning label debut.
The Nairobi-based producer is a member of EA Wave, a collective of young East African DJs and producers with a vision to revolutionize the East Africa arts scene.
'Vagabond' is out now on Banana Hill. Listen to 'A1' and 'A2' below, and purchase the EP here.
