Premiere: Auntie Flo ‘Ras’

Auntie Flo makes his Disco Halal debut with the ‘Kabsa’ EP. Hear typically excellent ‘Ras’ now...

Auntie Flo will make his Disco Halal debut on 3rd May with his ‘Kabsa’ EP.

Stepping up on Moscoman’s revered label, the producer – real name Brian d'Souza – follows his 2018 ‘Radio Highlife’ LP on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood with another collection of masterfully crafted club music with a vivid sense of place.

Where Auntie Flo’s previous releases have found him championing sounds and artists from throughout Africa and Latin America, ‘Kabsa’ finds him drawing influence from time spent travelling and playing in countries along the Levantine coastline as well as Turkey and Morocco.

The three original cuts on the EP – ‘Baba’, ‘Kabsa’ and ‘Ras’ – find d'Souza on the most dancefloor focussed form he’s been on for some time, with organic percussion and lush melodies weaving around heady bass grooves, all making for a perfect marriage of classic Auntie Flo and Disco Halal styles. There’s also excellent remix of ‘Baba’ by Ecuadorian producer Nicola Cruz thrown in for good measure.

Check out the EP’s triumphant and melodic closer ‘Ras’ below.
