Premiere: Dominowe ‘Rah (Core Gqom)’

Durban’s Dominowe returns to GQOM OH! with a  new eight-track EP. Hear ‘Rah’ now

Dominowe will release a new eight-track EP, ‘UMTHAKATHI’, via GQOM OH! this month.

Having debuted on the label in 2016 with the ‘Africa’s Cry’, the Durban producer and DJ has been celebrated for his innovative take on the percussive gqom sound. He’s been prolific in the years since; in 2020 he released the ‘Away From Home’ demos album on the label in order to raise funds to rebuild his studio following a break in at his home.

‘UMTHAKATHI’ finds Dominowe branching into new territory with his craft, introducing vocals to his productions for the first time, and leaving more space than ever for melodies amongst the stomping syncopated percussion and futuristic FX zaps. The album takes its name from a combination of the Zulu words “thaka” (mix) and “muthi” (medicine), and is intended to be a reflection of light and dark or, as the EP’s accompanying text states, “the Witch Doctors who prey on suffering, but also the doctors who focus on care and healing.”

You can hear the infectious club slammer ‘Rah (Core Gqom)’ from the EP below.

‘UMTHAKATHI’ will be released on 29th January. Pre-order it here.
