LOFT will make her Tri Angle Records debut on 3rd May with the release of the ‘and departt from mono games’ EP.
Perhaps best known for her mind-boggling edits and bootlegs of tracks by the likes of Blink-182, Destiny’s Child, Carly Rae Jepsen and Charli XCX, the Manchester producer – AKA Aya Sinclair – has honed a unique skill for taking the most infectious and addictive ingredients of pop music and twisting them into dizzying, distorted sonic shapes.
As evidenced in her thrilling and subversive DJ sets, the dancefloor is never too far from LOFT’s mind, and nowhere is this more evident than on this new EP. Evading the edits that filled releases like ‘ell oh eff tea too oh won ate’, ‘and depart from mono games’ maintains the intricacy and intensity of her previous work but takes it into a much darker and more personal domain.
Taking tropes from bass, jungle and ambient styles, LOFT rewires conventional structures into four experimental cuts that are dynamic, frenetic and utterly captivating. With the release of ‘That Hyde Trakk’ earlier this month, Sinclair delivered a track that was at once an ode to ‘90s d&b and an electrifying, at times overwhelming, example of contemporary club-music’s potential to defy any genre, expectation or rigid form. It’s amazing, you should listen to it.
“'and departt from mono games' digests the crisis of identity I experienced across the time of writing,” LOFT has explained of the EP “Everything on this record has been consolidated into a final state, reimported and rearranged; a reflection of the splintering and recombination of my self-image. The result is sedimentary slabs of experience compounded to form a sound ecology in which the arrow of time splits along the shaft. I’m glad that I’ve reached a period of relative emotional stability at the same time as this record’s release. This is an aggregate of 3 years of instability.”
