Premiere: Paradox ‘Octa4’

Breakbeat don and drumfunk pioneer Paradox steps up on Sneaker Social Club with his 195th 12”, ‘Octa4 / Proceed’. Hear the intoxicating beat science of ‘Octa4’ now

Paradox will make debut on Sneaker Social Club next month, delivering his 195th 12” release since bursting onto the UK rave scene in the early ‘90s.

Dev Pandya, who has also produced as Alaska and other monickers over the years, has been breaking the parameters of jungle, drum & bass and hardcore since day one, cultivating a catalogue of synapse-snapping rhythms, and becoming a pioneer of the nimble, razor sharp sound of drumfunk.

Having released on labels like Moving Shadow, Metalhedz and more, Paradox’s Sneaker Social Club debut is a masterful two-tracker of precisely crafted rhythms, with nods to funk, jazz, jungle, dancehall and dub techno woven through its heady atmosphere.

“I've done 40 titles pressed on vinyl at slower tempos back in the late ‘90s Reinforced Records days, so when Sneaker Social Club asked me for a Breakbeat 12" specifically for them I was intrigued,” says Paradox about the release. “Going through the label’s disgography I liked the attention to the spine of underground music - Funk Rhythm, so I managed to get all my influences packed into the two tracks I wrote for the 12" on my Commodore computer. I hope everyone likes them as much as I did making the project. Vinyl is a wonderful thing.”
