Premiere: Semprey ‘Balanga’

Semprey fuses explosive club rhythms with traditional Polish folk instrumentation on the ‘Balanga’ EP for Tańce. Hear the title track now

Newly launched Polish label Tańce will release its second EP this week, Semprey’s ‘Balanga’.

It’s the Kraków producer’s debut EP, and makes for a striking introduction to his playful, dynamic style. Known for his adventurous pop and hip-hop edits, Semprey retains that spirit on ‘Balanga’, but creates a sound that is more individual, pulling as much from traditional Polish folk instrumentation as he does from the sounds of ballroom, bass and Baltimore club.

The EP is full of syncopated rhythms and animated electronics. ‘Jazda’ is a full-throttle club anthem, made all the more interesting by its mutation of the traditional Kashubian burczybas. ‘Dobranoc’, meanwhile, is a nimble, euphoric cut dedicated to the Polish LGBTQ+ community. The EP’s title track erupts with organic percussion and robust dynamic, closing the release with a bang. Check it out below.

‘Balanga’ follows Tańce’s debut release from November, Avtomat’s ‘Gusła (Human Rites)’, which channeled the frustration of the country’s persecuted LGBTQ+ community into an EP of thunderous club rhythms and dancefloor catharsis.

‘Balanga’ is out this Friday 4th December. You can buy it here.
