The opening half of ‘Colorado’ is sub-par. Chock-full of pre-ordained note progressions and melodies, it’s compounded by a super laidback build. Midway through its initially equally shrug-some break though, it suddenly grows a pair. A big, running analogue synth develops; the percussion toughens, and its thematic resolve stiffens. By the time those drums and harmonies reappear, it's all making a lot more sense.
