Amazon Music launches free streaming service via Alexa

Listeners will not need a Prime subscription

Amazon have added to their streaming capabilities with a free music service which will not require an Amazon Prime subscription.

In an interview with Music Week, Amazon Music UK Director Paul Firth shared that Amazon had plans to build on its subscription base by introducing streaming through Alexa devices.

Available from the 1st August, the service will allow anyone with an Alexa-enabled device to stream ad-supported playlists and radio stations for free.

In March this year, Amazon, Google and Spotify opened a legal battle to appeal significant royalty increases for songwriters.

Streaming accounted for 75% of music industry revenue in 2018.
