Biz Markie to have street named after him on Long Island

The hip hop pioneer passed away in July of this year

Biz Markie's legacy is to be celebrated in his hometown of Patchogue, Long Island, with a street set to be named after him.

The hip hop pioneer's widow Tara Davis revealed the news this week via a post on Instagram, writing: "In honor of the contributions Biz has achieved as an actor, beatboxer, DJ and philanthropist, his hometown of Patchogue, Long Island will honor him with the renaming of South Street to Biz Markie Way!"

She continued: "Thank you. [Tracey Todd] for spearheading this project, Patchogue Villiage Mayor, Paul Pontieri and The Greater Patchogue Foundation."

The renaming ceremony will be held at a staging area behind the 6th District Court on Saturday, 25th September. See more information below.

Biz Markie passed away in July of this year following complications with type 2 diabetes. "Biz created a legacy of artistry that will forever be celebrated by his industry peers and his beloved fans whose lives he was able to touch through music, spanning over 35 years," his rep Jenni Izumi said in a statement at the time.

Busta Rhymes, Ice-T and more paid tribute to the late rapper at a memorial service last month.
