Björk releases VR version of 2015 LP ‘Vulnicura’

Björk has released a virtual reality version of her 2015 album 'Vulnicura.' 

'Vulnicura' VR has been a longtime in the making. The idea started as a conversation between Björk and Andrew Thomas Huang about how they wanted to document the track 'Stonemilker,' later filmed on a beach in Iceland in 2014. Now the project is complete, the VR experience includes visuals for 'Lionsong', 'Mouth Mantra', 'Notget', 'Black Lake', 'Family' and 'Quicksand.' Prior to this release, which came out on September 6th, the VR videos, recorded between 2014 and 2016, were part of an international Björk Digital exhibition. 

Alongside the pre-existing video, there is new material too, in the form of a 360-degree animated score for each song on the album, composed by Stephen Malinowski. For the user, the sound will change depending on the direction they are facing. 

In a statement about the new project, Björk said: "The whole process has been an improvisation, trying to keep faith in formats. It is too easy for musicians to turn pessimistic after CDs have evaporated but I wanted to try and have courage to grow along with how 360 sound and vision tech was growing. With every challenge try and turn it into an additional gift for the ideology in the music."
