Burning Man musical set to be released this week
The show's protagonist, Molly, heads to Black Rock City but all is not as it seems
A musical based on Burning Man is set to be released for streaming audiences this week.
'Burning Man: The Musical' is a comedy inspired by the annual Nevada event's 1990s heyday and its takeover by billionaire tech company owners and their employees. The plot follows a new hire — fittingly named Molly — as she heads out on a company ticket to Black Rock City, the festival site which organisers describe as a 'temporary metropolis'. As the story unfolds it becomes clear all is not what it seems at the firm she has just joined.
Written by Matt Werner, the score has been composed by Gene Back with Ari Grooves responsible for choreography. The production saw ten actors perform on a closed soundstage at a time when real-world theatres remained closed due to the pandemic. The show will become available to watch on Friday 27th August via the Broadway On Demand platform, costing $7.99 to rent or $19.99 to buy.
Burning Man cancelled its 2020 and 2021 festivals due to COVID-19, and instead is currently hosting a second virtual event following last year's Burning Man Multiverse edition. The digital spectacular this time began on 22nd August and runs until 7th September.
