Caribou drops first new track in five years, 'Home': Watch

Caribou has dropped his first new track in five years. ‘Home’ premiered today as Annie Mac's Hottest Record In The World on her BBC Radio 1 show.  

The producer, also known as Dan Snaith, has been absent from the release schedule since his sixth album, 'Our Love', garnered critical acclaim across the board back in 2014. Between then and now he has thrown weight behind the Music Declares Emergency climate change initiative, and kept ears happy with output under his other moniker, Daphni, such as 'Sizzling' 

This fresh effort is centred on a sample of soul songstress Gloria Barnes' 1971 classic 'Home', with the low-slung downtempo number providing a welcome hit of warmth just as the autumnal chills begin to set in. 

"I'm always listening to lots of music and sometimes a loop just jumps out at me— it's too perfect. That's how it was with Gloria Barnes' 'Home'. I kept returning to it, meaning to do something with it but not knowing what," said Snaith of the idea behind the tune. 

"Sometimes making music feels like a process I'm in charge of... but there are other times when things just present themselves and my job is to follow their lead. It wasn't until the circumstances of someone close to me mirrored the refrain of the original song that the track all came together."

The cut has arrived at the same time as news of forthcoming Caribou tour dates for spring 2020. Toronto, Chicago, Detroit, Montreal, Washington and Brooklyn feature on the North American leg. UK fans can catch the man in question at dates in Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow and London among other cities, with further dates also scheduled for continental Europe.
