Carl Craig drops new album project, 'Versus'

Turning techno into symphonic masterpieces…

Carl Craig will release ‘Versus’, an album of Craig’s techno originals transformed in symphonic arrangements, on 5th May.

Debuting live originally in 2008, ‘Versus’ was performed at La Cité de La Musique, Paris, where Craig was joined by the Les Siècles orchestra conducted by François-Xavier Roth, techno maven Moritz von Oswald and piano prodigy Francesco Tristano.

The performance was a success resulting in five standing ovations and over one million views online of the original film recording.

Gilles Peterson says of the landmark live performance, "I’m in awe of Carl’s determination to stretch the boundaries of techno…and prove that electronic beats are as much ‘music’ as violins or cellos.”

The first EP release from the album is the '94 techno classic 'Sandstorms', initially released on the 'Just Another Day' EP. The new 12’’ features the studio version of the ‘Versus’ orchestral variation, as well as an unreleased touch on the original — both crafted by Craig himself — on blue vinyl.

The Synthesizer Ensemble, comprised of Craig and five musicians, will take the stage interpreting the music from ‘Versus’ onto a synthesizer wall beginning with a live show at this year’s Movement Detroit.
