Caterina Barbieri announces new album, ‘Spirit Exit’, shares track: Listen

Caterina Barbieri has announced the release of her third album, 'Spirit Exit', this summer. Watch the music video for lead track 'Broken Melody' below.

The eight-track album, out on 8th July, will be the second release on Barbieri's label light-years, launched in July 2021 with a Lyra Pramuk collaboration. It follows up her 2019 album 'Ecstatic Computation' via Editions Mego.

On 'Spirit Exit', the Italian composer features vocals, guitar and string instrumentation for the first time alongside her signature modular synth. It was written and recorded during the first Milan lockdown of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. The album was inspired by "female mystics", according to the press release, such as St. Teresa D'Avila, Rosi Braidotti and Emily Dickinson.

Of lead single 'Broken Melody', Barbieri calls it "a love song to the end of the world, a form of telepathy".
