Accompanying the release, the Southern Africa-born, UK-raised DJ has also announced her debut four-track EP, ‘EVERGREEN’. The EP is slated for release on 5th April via her new label, Abantu.
According to a press release, ‘Morning Sun’ explores the feeling of falling in love. Produced by DJ Kwamzy, the song was written and sung by Charisse C, drawing inspiration from the radiant morning sun that fills her bedroom in Johannesburg, South Africa.
It follows the release of Charisse C and Koek Sista's debut collaborative EP, a joint project titled The Ascension, last October. The five-track project was released through the Brixton label Don’t Sleep and seamlessly blended various elements of South African electronic music, including gqom and amapiano, with harmonious vocal performances.
Back in 2022, Charisse C spoke to DJ Mag about her journey as an artist, as well as her No Signal radio show, which details the history of region-specific genres, from the Zulu folk sounds of maskandi to the popular protest songs of chimurenga. Read the interview here.
