Chase & Status announce new album, 'What Came Before', share single: Listen

Chase & Status have shared details of their sixth studio album, 'What Came Before'.

Spanning 13 tracks, the album features vocal contributions from Popcaan, Unknown T, BackRoad Gee and IRAH, among others. Its announcement follows on from the release of singles 'When It Rains' (featuring BackRoad Gee) and 'Don't Be Scared' (featuring Takura).

To mark the album's announcement, Chase & Status have released another new single, 'Mixed Emotions', for which you can watch a video below.

Speaking about the visual, which was filmed in two halves, director Femi Ladi (who worked with Pa Salieu on the video for his track 'My Family)' said: "On nights out like this, sometimes you just want to get fucked up. Trying to get to that moment, when you're out of your head and completely in the moment. Sometimes music gets us there, sometimes drugs and alcohol, sometimes it's a combination of all three.

"I want to connect our camera to the chasing of that high. A visual metaphor for trying to reach that euphoria. Each time she takes a bump, a line or a pill, the camera closes in on her. The closer she gets to that euphoric moment, the closer the camera gets to her.

"By the end I want the audience to have an uncomfortable and claustrophobic feeling as our hero goes slightly overboard, a feeling that most of us know but won't dare to admit."

'What Came Before' will be released on 10th June. There will be an exclusive intimate album listening party event at London's KOKO on 12th May, for which fans can access the ticket pre-sale by pre-ordering the record here.

In 2020, Chase & Status released the 'RTRN II FABRIC' album as part of the London club's ongoing 'fabric presents' series.
