Cypress Hill to make The Simpsons cameo "a reality" after 27 years

They plan to make the joke a reality to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their 1993 second album 'Black Sunday'

Cypress Hill have revealed that they plan to make a joke from The Simpsons, in which they collaborate with the London Symphony Orchestra, "a reality".

The hip-hop group made a cameo in the long-running cartoon series during 1996 episode Homerpalooza. In the show, Homer took his family to the alternative rock festival, Hullabalooza, to try to prove to his children that he was still in touch with popular culture, with Sonic Youth and Smashing Pumpkins also making cameos in the episode.

During one part of Homerpalooza, a roadie is seen trying to find out which of the acts on the bill had booked the London Symphony Orchestra to play alongside them. The finger is soon pointed in the direction of Cypress Hill, who are accused of making the booking while they were high. The two acts are then seen performing a joint version of Cypress Hill's classic single 'Insane In The Brain'.

It had become a long-running joke after the episode aired that the two acts should combine to perform the classical version of the track, and now the hip-hop group hope to make it happen to mark the 30th anniversary of their 1993 album 'Black Sunday'.

Taking to Instagram, Cypress Hill replied to a reel of their guest appearance on The Simpsons: "July in Denver with the Colorado symphony, we are playing 'Black Sunday' in its entirety to celebrate its 30 [year] anniversary. After that we plan to make the gig with the London Symphony a reality. Salute to The Simpsons for birthing the idea."

Full details of the Denver gig are yet to be announced.

Last year, Cypress Hill released their 10th studio album, 'Back In Black'.
