DAMON ALBARN ON NEW GORILLAZ ALBUM: “SHOULD BE READY FAIRLY SOON”

“I’m loving it and it’s getting there”...

Damon Albarn has told BBC 6 Music that his eagerly anticipated new Gorillaz album should be “ready fairly soon,” adding “I’m loving it and it’s getting there.”

Albarn has been teasing the existence of a new Gorillaz album since 2014, and last year confirmed he would begin recording the follow-up to ‘The Fall' in September of last year.

Albarn recorded the last Gorillaz album using only music software on his iPad, recording the main bulk of the album whilst on a tour bus in the US.

"I literally made it on the road. I didn't write it before, I didn't prepare it. I just did it day by day as a kind of diary of my experience in America.”

Details on the follow-up to ‘The Fall’ are still on the ground, but many diehard fans are hoping Albarn will return to a more collaborative approach for the virtual band's next long-play.

The first album featured 14 guests out of 16 tracks, whilst the last album, ‘The Fall’, only featured four.

The artist behind the Gorillaz's iconic animated look, Jamie Hewitt, has also confirmed that work is well underway for the next album, “I don’t want to say too much about it, but I’m at that phase of experimentation,” he told DIY at the time.
