Darude will represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019.

The ‘Sandstorm’ producer – real name Ville Virtanen – will represent his home-country alongside vocalist Sebastian Rejman. Between the 8th and 22nd February the duo will release three new tracks, one of which will be chosen as the entry to the competition, which will be broadcast in May. The track will be selected using a combination of public votes and a judging panel.

”This is a huge challenge for me in many ways,” Virtanen has said in an official statement. “When I was asked to represent Finland I felt a bit scared at first, but there was no way I could say no to my country! It is an honour to be part of this incredible experience and I only have positive expectations!”

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Darude’s inescapable ‘Sandstorm’. Last year, he released the track, ‘Surrender’, which saw him embarking on a pretty extensive tour of North America.

The producer’s work has, in case you weren’t aware, become subject of countless memes and Internet gags in recent years. Last year, Chin Stroke Research & Development launched a very real and very serious “project” to use the track as the alarm sound of an actual sandstorm detector.

The 2019 Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Tel Aviv, Israel from Tuesday 14th May to Saturday 18th.
