Dave wins the 2019 Mercury Prize with debut album 'Psychodrama'

The south London rapper beat the likes of Little Simz and slowthai to the post

South London rapper Dave has won the 2019 Mercury Prize for his debut album, 'Psychodrama'.

More than 200 entries were narrowed down to 12 nominees, which included the likes of Little Simz, slowthai and NAO. The judging panel for 2019 included Jorja Smith and Stormzy, alongside 10 other key industry figureheads.

Past winners of the Mercury Prize include Sampha, Skepta, James Blake and The xx.

Dave's debut album 'Psychodrama' was released in March 2019 to rapturous acclaim. The album followed two previous EPs, 2016's 'Six Paths' and 2017's 'Game Over'. After earning a reputation as a fierce freestyler, 'Psychodrama' has cemented Dave's position as one of the most exciting names in British rap, his debut full-length record acting as a bold and cathartic exploration of family and identity.

Dave also stars in the new series of Topboy.
