DAVID BOWIE DOCUMENTARY ‘THE LAST FIVE YEARS’ DUE NEXT YEAR

Watch a teaser for the BBC documentary...

David Bowie is set to be the subject of a new BBC documentary which will be aired in January 2017, titled David Bowie: The Last Five Years, which focuses on the final part of his life. You can watch a clip from it below.

The documentary will focus on the period where Bowie recorded his final two albums, ‘The Next Day’ and ‘Blackstar’, as well as his Lazarus stage musical, which opened at the Kings Cross Theatre in London recently.

The film, which is directed and produced by Francis Whately, is a follow up to David Bowie: Five Years from 2013 and will be broadcast on the BBC as part of a season marking the one-year anniversary of Bowie's passing in 2016.

Speaking about the film, Whately said, “I always hoped that I would make another film about Bowie as we were only able to scratch the surface in the first film, but I just didn’t expect it to be this soon.

“However, looking at Bowie’s extraordinary creativity during the last five years of his life has allowed me to re-examine his life’s work and move beyond the simplistic view that his career was simply predicated on change – Bowie the chameleon.

David Bowie: The Last Five Years will also include Bowie’s final recording before his death, an acapella performance of ‘Lazarus’ that has never been seen before, as well as his producer Tony Visconte in the studio with the band from ‘The Next Day’, recreating the production process for a number of tracks from the album.

Bowie sadly passed away in January at the age of 69 after a long battle with cancer. At the time artists from the world of dance music joined the outpouring of tributes on social media.

The legendary musician was posthumously nominated for the Mercury Prize 2016, before Skepta was revealed as the winner of the 25th year of the award announced at its ceremony on Thursday 15th September.
