David Guetta is among several artists under pressure to cancel forthcoming appearances in Saudi Arabia.
It comes amid worldwide controversy following the murder of veteran Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi embassy in Turkey in early October.
OneRepublic, The Black Eyed Peas, Jason DeRulo and Enrique Iglesias are also among the artists under pressure to cancel at the Saudi concert series, Ad Diriyah E-Prix.
Garry Kasparov, the Russian chess grandmaster and current chair of the Human Rights Foundation, said in a statement:
“It is outrageous that these artists — who millions of people admire and idolize — have agreed to do business with the murderous regime of MbS [Saudi Arabia’s crown prince Mohammed Bin Salman]. The hypocrisy of these musicians, who have previously called upon their fans to stand up for social justice and human rights, will destroy their credibility and reputation.”
Guetta - who is set to perform at the event's closing day on December 15th - has yet to publicly comment on the development.
Back in September, the 51-year-old was DJ Mag North America's cover star.
The French DJ and producer also recently launched his new alias, Jack Back, with a twelve-track mixtape.
