Diplo confirms Major Lazer’s next album will be their last

The news comes in the midst of a flurry of new music from the trio...

Diplo has confirmed that the forthcoming Major Lazer album will be the group’s last.

In an interview with Complex the production superstar said that the trio, who released their 'Afrobeats (DJ mix)' mixtape earlier in September, would be calling it a day after the release of their new album in 2019.

Major Lazer, who celebrate their tenth anniversary as a group this year, promised “new music all month” a few weeks ago and they have indeed delivered dividends between the release of the tape and new single ‘Tied Up’ featuring Mr. Eazi and Raye.

Fans need not be too upset though, as in the same breath as announcing Major Lazer’s end Dipo confirmed that they have a lot up their sleeves in the next year.

The album, he said, would comprise of  "a bunch of stuff you haven't heard like that we made the last ten years. Next year marks our last album, so we got a lot of stuff in between now and then."

Diplo – who, by the way, absolutely hates croutons – emphasised that part of the reason for the band disbanding was because of how busy he was with other projects such as Silk City with Mark Ronson and LSD with Sia and Labrinth.

In 2017, Major Lazer came in at no. 45 in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll.
