DJ livestreams fundraising for Ukraine to take place this week

A number of electronic music platforms will host DJ livestreams raising funds for Ukrainian aid organisations this week following Russia’s invasion of the country. 

On Thursday (24th February), Russia's president Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of neighbouring Ukraine. In response to this act of war, and ensuing humanitarian crisis, individuals, collectives and platforms across the world of electronic music have voiced solidarity with the people of Ukraine. Demonstrations have been held around the world in protest of the conflict.

This Sunday (27th February), Amsterdam’s Radio Radio FM will host a livestream raising funds for The Ukraine Humanitarian Fund and the International Fund (КОЖЕН МОЖЕ). DJ sets will come from Alison Swing, Carista, DJ Bone, Elias Mazian, Job Jobse, Ki/Ki, Lola Palmer and Young Marco. The stream will kick off at 4pm. Organisers are also encouraging members of the public to attend tomorrow’s demonstration against the conflict in Dam Square, which will take place from 2pm. 

Berlin’s Refuge Worldwide radio platform and Our Society will also host a livestreamed event on Sunday in the station’s Oona venue. Funds raised through the event, and via this donation link, will go toward Vostok-SOS and the Ukrainian Red Cross. Refuge Worldwide will also be making a donation from its bar spend, and from donated record sales. The event will take place from 2pm and will feature sets from Alinka, Cromby, JASSS, Palms Trax and others. 

On 5th March, James Hype’s Stereohype label will host a livestream raising funds for Save The Children UK, in aid of children affected by the war in Ukraine. You can donate to Save The Children’s efforts in Ukraine here.

On Thursday, Kyiv-based label Standard Deviation shared a list of causes to donate to via their Instagram, alongside the following statement: “Standard Deviation is a Ukrainian label. We stand against Russian aggressions towards Ukraine and Russian occupation of Ukrainian territories. While supporting Ukrainian artists and music community is important right now, we would like to ask you to consider donating to the following funds provided solutions, shelter and humanitarian aid to those in need.”

Kyiv club Closer shared a call to action to their Instagram, calling on the international community to voice their support for Ukraine and protest against the Russian invasion. Kyiv party Veselka shared a donation link, and encouraged followers to take part in demonstrations being held in their countries. 

Russian electronic music label Gost Zvuk has released a compilation titled ‘STOP THE WAR!’, with 100% of proceeds raised being sent to humanitarian funds helping those in need. The compilation was released alongside the following statement: “War is a crime against humanity. We stand with the people of Ukraine and demand an immediate end to war. We condemn the actions of the Russian government.”

Moscow-based queer techno party Popoff cancelled an event and shared a Russian petition calling for an end to the war with Ukraine. 

A Google Sheet has also been created, compiling links to works by Ukrainian artists and musicians, so that people can provide direct financial support through purchases made. The document also contains numerous links to charities and organisations raising funds for aid in Ukraine.
