The DMC World DJ Championships is launching a new global open-format mixing competition category for this year.

The DMC Open will be looking for "DJs who can showcase a mix of genres, eras, and tempos" and will be judged on the basis of music selection, showmanship, composition, originality, foundations, execution and overall impact. DJs are allowed to mix with analogue and digital turntables, mixers, samplers, laptops and tablets, and grooveboxes.

Online submissions are open until 22nd July, and selected winners who will be moving onto the DMC Open World Finals in Paris this October will be notified by 1st August.

Previous UK winners of DMC titles include JFB and Huw Wackman. Last year's DMC World Championships featured performances by Mix Master Mike and Dilated Peoples
