Family Guy satires dance music culture in new episode

Peter’s Def Jam sees Peter Griffin, Quagmire, Joe and Cleveland on deck...

Family Guy is no stranger to the world of electronic dance music, after Daft Punk made two appearances in the hit U.S. animated comedy.

Now, the show’s creator Seth MacFarlane has done a satire of the wider culture in its mid-season 15 return.

Titled Peter’s Def Jam, the episode sees Family Guy’s Peter Griffin start a podcast series with friends Quagmire, Joe and Cleveland.

After moving on to DJ in a bar – with tracks that include samples of the show’s most famous sayings including Quagmire’s “giggity” and Cleveland’s “that’s nasty” – the show’s promoter is so impressed by Peter’s “mad DJ skills” that he asks him to headline his Electric Clam Festival.

Poking fun at the repetitive nature of electronic music, the promoter yells, “You've been playing the exact same song for 14 hours. That means you're great!”

Peter accepts the show without Quagmire, Joe and Cleveland (after being convinced he doesn’t need them to “press three buttons”), but eventually goes deaf as the show progresses.
