David Byrne and Fatboy Slim are bringing their musical, Here Lies Love, to Broadway for the first time.

Based on the pair's 2010 double album of the same name, it documents the life of Imelda Marcos, the former first lady of the Philippines, and includes the story of the People Power Revolution, which removed her and her husband, the dictator Ferdinand Marcos, from power in 1986. The new Broadway production, which is set to debut this summrer, is being developed and directed by American writer Alex Timbers with choreography from Annie B-Parson.

Previous outings of Here Lies Love took place at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in 2012, New York's Public Theater in 2013, London's National Theater in 2014, and the Seattle Repertory Theater in 2017.

In a statement about the new production, the team behind it said: "As a team of binational American producers – Filipinos among us – we are thrilled to bring Here Lies Love to Broadway! We welcome everyone to experience this singularly exuberant piece of theatre. The history of the Philippines is inseparable from the history of the United States, and as both evolve, we cannot think of a more appropriate time to stage this show. See you on the dance floor!"

The original album from Byrne and Fatboy Slim featured a number of guest vocalists, including Florence Welch, Tori Amos and Santigold.

Last year, Fatboy Slim released a deluxe box set celebrating the 20th anniversary of his Big Beach Boutique Party in Brighton.
