Unified is the new mobile app that let's you keep track of your pals in a nightclub. The app, that works using your phone's Bluetooth network, allows you to pull up tailored maps of a designated club, including landmarks (bars, toilets and stages) plus located your friends throughout the venue, find out sets times and lots more. 

But the app isn't just a way to bring people together, it's also a way to make clubbing safer — now you can keep an eye on your pals wherever they are thanks to Unified's Buddy System. 

"Harm reduction and safety at clubs and events should be as integral to partygoers and promoters as seat belts are to drivers and car manufacturers," said Mark Lawrence, Chief Executive of the AFEM (Association For Electronic Music).

"Unified allows people to take responsibility for themselves and their friends, which will prevent and reduce harmful situations," Lawrence continued.

Using Unified's Buddy System via Bluetooth, which shows the location of your mates as moving pinpoints on the map, Unified enables event-goers to feel more secure in their immediate environment, safe in the knowledge a friend is always nearby.  Plus there's no need to worry about randoms knowing your movements, Unified ensures your privacy by only allowing pre-approved friends to see where you're at. 

Fiona Measham, Professor of Criminology and Director of The Loop drug and alcohol service, thinks the Unified app has far reaching implications for safety in clubland. "Mobile phone signals are often weak or non existent at clubs and festivals. This can cause all sorts of problems - customers lose their friends, staff struggle to communicate with each other and getting help (whether medical, welfare or security) can take far longer than it otherwise would," she said. 

"An app like Unified which facilitates communication would significantly improve the health, safety and wellbeing of customers and staff in many ways and really help The Loop to reduce drug and alcohol related harm at venues," Measham finished.
