Frank Ocean’s new record is inspired by “Detroit, Chicago, techno, house, French electronic”

"I’ve been interested in club, and the many different iterations of nightlife," he said

Frank Ocean has revealed details of his upcoming third studio album in a rare interview.

Speaking to W Magazine, the U.S. artist said that the as-of-yet untitled album has been influenced by scenes like "Detroit, Chicago, techno, house, French electronic..."

He added, "I’ve been interested in club, and the many different iterations of nightlife for music and songs. And so the things I look at now have a lot to do with those scenes. The expectation for artists to be vulnerable and truthful is a lot, you know?—when it’s no longer a choice. Like, in order for me to satisfy expectations, there needs to be an outpouring of my heart or my experiences in a very truthful, vulnerable way. I’m more interested in lies than that. Like, give me a full motion-picture fantasy.”

Though details of the album are under wraps, it will be the follow-up to Ocean's critically-acclaimed 2016 album 'Blond'.

Back in 2016, Wolfgang Tillmans revealed that he inspired Ocean with a trip to Berghain.
