The AR performance will take place at 14:30 (ET) 17 December in Times Square, and at 14:00 (GMT) 18 December in Piccadilly Circus.

Using Google’s ARCore Geospatial API, fans will be able to witness Murdoc, 2D, Noodle and Russel play the new track as they tower over the city. You can find out more about the event here.

The performance is directed by Gorillaz co-creator Jamie Hewlett, and the Emmy-nominated Fx Goby.

‘Cracker Island’, released on Parlophone, will mark the tenth studio album from Damon Albarn’s digital outfit. The LP will include a slew of collaborators, including: Steve Nicks, Adeleye Omatoya, Thunderc Cat, Tame Impala, Bad Bunny, Bootie Brown and Beck.

Last month, Gorillaz shared the single ‘Baby Queen’, which also features on the tracklist of their upcoming LP and first heard on the FIFA ‘23 soundtrack.

Murdoc Niccala, fictional bassist for the virtual band said: “To all our followers, get ready for the biggest Times Square takeover since that other gorilla smashed the place up. Bigger in fact cos there’s four of us. Thanks to the techies at Google, we’ve created the music video event of the century, so don your pink robes and come see Gorillaz like you’ve never seen us before. The future is nigh!”
