Hardwell cancels SAGA Festival set, blames "shit" equipment and pay issues: "Nothing is working"

The DJ got on the mic while on stage to cut his set short

Hardwell cancels SAGA Festival set citing "shit" equipment and pay issues: "Nothing is working"

Hardwell pulled out of his appearance at Romania's SAGA Festival mid-set this past weekend after complaining about issues with the DJ equipment and an alleged lack of payment.

Several videos shared online captured the moment that the DJ jumped on the mic while on stage to tell the gathered crowd that he would no longer be playing his set, roughly five minutes after starting. Before that, the videos show several people gathered around him at the DJ booth attempting to resolve what appears to be a technical issue.

Hardwell can be heard saying: "They didn't pay me any fucking money to be here tonight, but I'm still here. I'm still here. I'm here. I'm fucking here. And everything is fucking shit. Nothing is working.

"Listen SAGA, if I'm here for you guys, I want to perform for you guys. The whole equipment, everything is letting me down. I can't perform. It's impossible for me to perform. The whole DJ booth is shit, it's fucking shit. I'm so sorry, I have to cancel this show. And fuck SAGA Festival."

The organisers of SAGA quickly took to Instagram to respond to Hardwell's on-stage comments, writing: "Well, Hardwell, we're sorry that Rita Ora, Sickick, Loreen, and all the DJs on five other stages got to play on the first day of SAGA and you didn't. The equipment traveled all the way from the Netherlands, just like you. The same set seems to be working perfectly fine for Will Sparks right now."

They added that they would have quickly worked to resolve any technical problems that Hardwell was having, and that they had also done everything possible to accommodate all of the DJ's requests, including making agreed payments.

"We're sorry to (y)our fans," the post concluded. "They would have loved to watch you finally perform in Bucharest."

Taking place from 5th-7th July, SAGA Festival also hosted sets from the likes of Armin van Buuren, Deborah de Luca, ARTBAT and James Hype, who sampled Hardwell's on-stage rant in his own set.

Last month, Hardwell released the intro track from his 2024 Ultra Miami set, the KAAZE collaboration 'Move'.

In the weeks after Ultra Miami, he also released a free sample pack aimed at producers on GarageBand iOS and Logic Pro for iPad. This followed an announcement that he would be expanding his YouTube channel to include exclusive live streams, tutorials for aspiring studio heads, and other content.
