History of modern beatmaking explored in new book, Bedroom Beats & B-Sides

The history of modern beatmaking will be explored in a new book.

Set for release in September, the new book, Bedroom Beats & B-Sides, details "the rise of bedroom producers at the turn of the century through the stories of the instrumental hip-hop and electronic music scenes that made this rise possible. From trip-hop, illbient, and IDM to leftfield hip-hop, glitch, and beats, the book explores how these scenes acted as incubators for new ideas about composition and performance that are now taken for granted." 

Authored by Laurent Fintoni, the book features over 100 interviews and extensive research into the social, cultural and musical history of modern beatmaking, and explores hip-hop and electronic music from the '90s right up until 2010, across Europe, North America, and Japan.

ABC of UKG: An Alphabet of UK Garage (the Golden Era) is a new book from scene veteran Rukaiya Russell, celebrating UKG's late '90s and early '00s golden era.

Earlier this year, a book following the unique life and career of composer Wendy Carlos was published. Carlos worked on albums such as Switched-On Bach, Sonic Seasonings, as well as the scores for A Clockwork Orange, The Shining and Tron.
